Scripture: James 5:16: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
THE FELLOWING ARE 9 PRINCIPLES TO FOLLOW IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A POWERFUL PRAYER WARRIORS
1. Consistency in prayer (not occasional):
A fervent prayer believer doesn’t pray only in trouble, they have a daily prayer life:
• Set regular times to pray
• Build a lifestyle of communion with God
Think of Daniel who prayed three times daily even under pressure (Daniel 6:10).
• Action: You protect your prayer time no matter how busy life gets.
2. Intensity and focus when praying:
Fervency shows in how you engage yourself .
• You avoid distractions
• Your mind and heart are present
• You pray with seriousness, not casually
Like Jesus Christ in Gospel of Luke 22:44, praying intensely in Gethsemane.
• Action: You pray with deep concentration and sincerity.
3. Persistence (refusing to give up):
Fervent believers don’t quit when answers delay.
• You continue praying for the same matter
• You don’t become discouraged quickly
See Gospel of Luke 18:1—the parable of persistent prayer.
• Action: You keep praying until there is breakthrough or clear direction.
4. Faith-filled expectation:
You pray expecting results, not just hoping vaguely.
• You believe God hears and responds
• You stand on His promises
Example: Elijah expected rain after praying (James 5:17–18).
• Action: You speak and act as someone who expects God to move.
5. A life of righteousness and obedience:
Fervent prayer is backed by a life that honors God.
• You turn away from sin
• You pursue holiness
• You obey what God tells you
Action: Your lifestyle supports your prayers, not contradicts them.
6. Burden for others (intercession):
Fervent prayer is not selfish, it carries others before God.
• You pray for family, church, nation
• You feel concern for others spiritually
Like Moses interceding for Israel.
• Action: You regularly pray for people beyond yourself.
7. Willingness to sacrifice (time, comfort, sometimes fasting):
Fervency often costs something.
• You may wake up early or stay up late
• You may fast to seek God more deeply
Action: You prioritize prayer over comfort.
8. Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit:
A fervent believer listens, not just talks.
• You pause and wait on God
• You follow His guidance after prayer
>>>Action: Your decisions are influenced by what you receive in prayer
9. Thanksgiving even before the answer:
This shows maturity in prayer.
• You thank God in advance
• You trust His timing
Action: Gratitude becomes part of your prayer life.
REMARKS: The real test (honest truth)
Fervent prayer is not proven by:
• Loudness
• Length
• Public display
It is proven by: Consistency, sincerity, obedience, and results over time.
