What You Think When You Wake Up Determines How Your Day Goes – Pastor Gisanura

Pastor Christian Gisanura has emphasized the importance of a person’s first thoughts upon waking, explaining that they set the tone for the entire day.

He noted that many people wake up thinking about problems, worries, or the tasks ahead of them. However, he encouraged a better approach—choosing what to think about rather than letting circumstances dictate one’s mindset.

“You can plan your day by choosing your thoughts. Life should not decide for you what to think, because it cannot determine how you will live,” he said.

He stressed that our thoughts have the power to direct our lives, and that individuals should take control of them instead of being controlled by them.

To illustrate this, he gave a powerful example of how destructive thinking can lead people down dangerous paths, pointing out that even those who committed genocide were influenced by long-developed thoughts of hatred.

“If you don’t decide what to think about, something else will decide for you and lead you where you never intended to go,” he warned.

Pastor Gisanura explained that the human heart is like a storehouse—what you put into it is what will be reflected in your life. That is why it is important to guard it carefully, as the Bible says in Proverbs 4:23: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

He also reminded believers of Jesus’ teaching on abiding in God’s word: “If you remain in my word, and my word remains in you, you are truly my disciples; you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

This, he explained, shows that when a person fills their heart with godly and positive thoughts, their life aligns accordingly.

Pastor Gisanura also warned about the dangers of filling the mind with negative influences. “If you fill your mind with violent content, you will become like it. If you focus on quick ways to make money, it may lead you into theft,” he said.

Speaking about what people should think about in the morning, he referenced the book of Lamentations, where the prophet Jeremiah found hope by remembering God’s mercy.
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope” (Lamentations 3:21).

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail” (Lamentations 3:22).

“They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:23).

He explained that waking up each day is not by one’s own strength or wisdom, but by God’s mercy. “Many people die or face accidents, but the fact that you are alive is by God’s grace,” he said.

He encouraged people to begin their day by focusing on God’s love and trusting in Him, as the Bible continues: “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him” (Lamentations 3:24).

“The Lord is good to those who hope in Him, to the one who seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:25).

“It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord” (Lamentations 3:26).

In conclusion, Pastor Gisanura stressed that starting the day with thoughts centered on God lays a strong foundation for life. “Do not wake up thinking about your problems. Instead, think about God’s mercy that woke you up, and ask Him to guide you through the day,” he advised.

He ended by encouraging people to comfort themselves in difficult times by remembering that God’s mercy is always present. According to him, this brings peace and helps one live a purposeful and hopeful life.
