The President of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Ted N.C. Wilson, has posted on his Facebook account that he was saddened to hear of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria.
"We were deeply saddened to hear of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in the early hours of Monday morning, leaving thousands of people dead and untold numbers still trapped beneath the rubble as rescuers work around the clock in very difficult conditions of snow, rain, and ice.
Our hearts go out to all those suffering from this horrific disaster and I invite Seventh-day Adventists worldwide to pray for the dear people of Turkey and Syria, for those in the refugee camps, and for the rescuers who contain to dig through the rubble as they try to save as many as possible.
As we continue to see disasters, wars, political upheaval and chaos filling the world with sorrow, we are reminded of the words of Jesus when He told His disciples, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. . . .” (Luke 21:10, 11). But after describing these fearful events, He added words of hope: “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:28).
Surely, Jesus is coming soon! Until then, may we do all we can to lift up those who are suffering from this terrible disaster. We are thankful for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) and the outstanding work they are already carrying out following this devastating earthquake.
