Pastor Ezira Mpyisi was born on February 19, 1922, and passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024 as confirmed by his family.
Ezira Mpyisi was a pastor in the Seventh Day Adventist church before he was dead at the age of 102 (there were only 23 days left). He was born in Rwanda, in Southern Province, Nyanza District, (at the gate of king’s palace) of Rwanda.
He attended primary school at Rwamata Adventist School, secondary school at Gitwe Missionary School, during 12 learning to read and speak French.
He went to university in Zimbabwe, where the whites ruled. It was the Belgians who had sent him there. He is the first Adventist university student from Rwanda, Burundi and Democratic Republic of the Congo (RDC) who first obtained the qualification of the Bachelor in the field of Theology.
At the age of 29, he became a Pastor, in 1951. After 2 years, in 1953, he became a Missionary in Kasai in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (RDC).
All his life he lived as an evangelist in the Seventh-day Adventist church which also allowed him to be in the National Council where he consulted King Mutara III Rudahigwa.
After Rudahigwa died, Pastor Mpyisi continued to consult King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa who replaced him until 1960, when he was exiled from the nation by the Belgians, at the request of the Parmehutu Party.
Pastor Mpyisi passed away more than a month after they announced that he is dead, because he had been ill for six months. On December 14 last year, 2023, the rumors were being said that he died but less than ten hours later he came to deny it, in an interview with the media.
In the interview through Ezira Mpyisi’s YouTube, the interview he had with journalist Uwiringiyimana Patience, he announced that he is alive despite being sick. He said: "If it happened to me, I said if it was true. But my loved ones don’t want me to die. But I’m sorry, I’ve not been healthy for six months. So they say that I have passed away.
On this day it became true, Ezra Mpyisi who became a Pastor teaching other pastors, who said that he was in the true religion, on the path that will take him to Heaven, is no longer alive. Pastor Ezra Mpyisi is one of those who translated the Bible into the Kinyawanda.
